Drones Break Through to the Fields: Drone Market for Agriculture to Grow by 25%

Areas Treated by UAVs Expected to Increase to 2 Million Hectares by 2028

In 2026, the Russian drone market for agriculture may increase by 20–25% and reach 18–22 billion rubles. This forecast is reported by Vedomosti, citing calculations by Wheelies, a company developing drone management solutions.

The main growth drivers are the removal of regulatory barriers. Since January 15, the Ministry of Transport has reduced the flight plan submission time for aerial chemical work from 24 hours to one hour. And on March 10, Rospotrebnadzor introduced amendments to SanPiN, which take agro-drones out of the "gray zone": the permitted processing distance from settlements, water bodies, and reserves has been reduced from 2 km to 700 meters. This significantly increases the areas available for the application of technologies.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, about 600,000 hectares were treated with drones in 2025. By 2028, this figure is planned to be increased to 2 million hectares annually. From 2026, regions will begin to set planned targets for field treatment with drones.

A Wheelies survey showed that only 15% of companies currently use agro-drones. Another 35% plan to introduce them in the next 2–3 years, 30% are testing the technology in pilot projects. The remaining 20% do not consider drones in their activities.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that in 2026 the volume of the market for services using unmanned aircraft systems, including agro-drones, will reach 32 billion rubles, and the number of equipment involved will be about 8 thousand units.
