Year-round hangar for servicing MC-21, Sukhoi Superjet 100, and Boeing aircraft opened at Krasnoyarsk Airport

The former cold section, worth 790 million rubles, has become a warm complex - now aircraft are not transferred to other regions for maintenance

Krasnoyarsk is making a bid not just for the role of a transit hub, but for the status of a key service point for aviation in the center of the country. A year-round aircraft maintenance center has been launched at Krasnoyarsk International Airport — the former "cold" hangar section with an area of almost seven thousand square meters has been converted into a full-fledged warm space. This was reported by the press service of the Governor and Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The airport's investments in the overhaul amounted to 790 million rubles — all funds are own. Now airlines can service MC-21, Sukhoi Superjet 100, Boeing 737/767, Airbus A320 and Il-114-300 directly in Krasnoyarsk, without transfers to technical bases in Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg or Moscow. The readiness of the facility was personally assessed by Governor Mikhail Kotyukov.

What has changed in the Krasnoyarsk Airport hangar after the renovation

Before the reconstruction, the section was practically not working in winter: the gates did not function, there was no heating, the concrete floor slabs did not meet aviation requirements. After the renovation, monolithic reinforced concrete with an epoxy coating was laid here, automatic sectional doors with thermal insulation were installed, heating, ventilation and foam fire extinguishing systems were installed, and electrical distribution columns were installed to connect aircraft.

Artyom Mosyagin, head of the aircraft airworthiness maintenance center of KrasAvia Airlines, explained the practical significance of the facility:

It is impossible to replace an engine or fix avionics malfunctions on the street in winter. Thanks to the opening of the hangar, we do not depend on third-party sites and can prepare equipment for flights faster, reducing downtime
Artyom Mosyagin, Head of the Aircraft Airworthiness Maintenance Center of KrasAvia Airlines

What is planned in the updated Krasnoyarsk Airport complex

It is planned to place an aircraft maintenance and repair (MRO) center in the renovated part of the hangar. According to the press service, this will create new jobs for aviation specialists in the region. The specific opening dates of the center have not been officially announced.

The hangar is ready to receive aircraft of any class. Airlines will now be able to service aircraft directly in Krasnoyarsk, without transfers to other regions — this saves both resources and time
Kirill Ermakov, General Director of Krasnoyarsk Airport

Krasnoyarsk is the geographical center of Russia and a natural point on the Moscow — Far East and Moscow — Southeast Asia routes. Its own year-round technical base changes the status of the airport: from a transit point, it turns into a self-sufficient aviation hub. Kotyukov called what happened a "correct model" — the business invested its own funds without budgetary participation. If the MRO center starts operating at full capacity, Krasnoyarsk will be able to apply for servicing transit flights of foreign airlines that historically made a technical stop in Siberia on Far Eastern routes.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Krasnoyarsk will become a hub for servicing Il-114-300.
