Tests of "tolerant" nuclear fuel completed at Rostov NPP

Rosatom scientists have made it more resistant to emergency situations

The pilot operation of a new type of nuclear fuel has been completed at power unit No. 2 of the Rostov NPP (located 16 km from Volgodonsk in the Rostov region). This was reported in the press service of Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom).

Three cassettes with "tolerant" nuclear fuel were loaded into the VVER-1000 reactor in 2021. Since the beginning of the experiment, 3 fuel campaigns of 18 months each have been carried out.

Then the substance was unloaded from the reactor core. Next, it will be sent for research to the Research Institute of Atomic Reactors in Dimitrovgrad.

"Tolerant" is the name given to a new generation of nuclear fuel safety. Rosatom scientists have made it even more "resilient" and resistant to emergency situations.
Press Service of Rosenergoatom

The use of innovative fuel is important for ensuring safety at nuclear power plants. This takes nuclear energy to a new level, Rosenergoatom summarized.
