Yandex's own electric car project is gradually coming out of the shadows. Since the beginning of 2026, 18 UMO 5 electric crossovers have already been registered in Russia — a model developed specifically for the company's taxi services.
According to market analysts, 7 cars were registered in January, and another 11 in February. These are the first cars from the batch that are planned to be used for pilot projects.
UMO 5 is based on the Chinese GAC Aion Y Plus electric crossover, but adapted for the Russian market and integrated into the Yandex ecosystem.
The cars are assembled at the Moskvich plant in Moscow. At the first stage, we are talking about small batches — the first cars are planned to be handed over to taxi operators.
In terms of characteristics, it is an urban electric crossover:
- electric motor power — 204 hp
- range — up to 430 km
- dimensions — 4535 × 1870 × 1650 mm
It was previously reported that the first 100 cars could be delivered to taxi fleets for test operation.
The project should show how much electric cars can reduce taxi costs. If the experiment is successful, a large fleet of electric taxis created within the Yandex ecosystem may appear on the roads of Russian cities.
