Method for early diagnosis of pollen allergy developed at KubSMU

The approach is based on the search for special "markers" in genes associated with the immune system

Scientists at Kuban State Medical University are creating a molecular genetic platform for predicting seasonal allergies. The methodology is based on the analysis of polymorphisms of key genes of immune regulation and metabolic markers.

The research group, led by Professor Ivan Pavlyuchenko, has identified a correlation between the genetic profile of patients and the development of pollinosis during the period of plant pollenation. The work is aimed at forming a predictive model that will allow assessing individual allergy risks before the appearance of clinical symptoms.

The focus of the study is on genes that regulate the functioning of the body's protective and adaptive systems, including cytokine cascades and immune response mechanisms. Analysis of genetic variations in combination with metabolic data should identify biomarkers associated with increased sensitivity to pollen. The obtained patterns will form the basis of a personalized diagnostic algorithm.

The project is of particular importance for the Krasnodar Territory: in some municipalities of the region, the prevalence of pollen allergy reaches 45%. The developed software platform will provide automated DNA screening for predisposition to pollinosis. This will allow moving from symptomatic therapy to preventive interventions at the cellular level, taking into account the patient's genotype.
