"Ferrosplavnaya-1" line at Zaporozhye NPP restored ahead of schedule

The backup power line is once again providing power for the station's own needs

Repair crews from Rosatom have completed the restoration of the 330 kV "Ferrosplavnaya-1" high-voltage power line supplying the Zaporozhye NPP. The work took less time than planned: according to the head of the state corporation, Alexei Likhachev, the line was restored a day ahead of schedule - March 6 at 17:40. The IAEA confirmed the connection.

The line failed on February 10 as a result of fire damage. Repair and restoration work could only begin on February 27 - after a ceasefire regime in the area of damage was agreed upon through the mediation of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian Guard and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the negotiations. Agency specialists from the permanent team at the facility monitored the progress of the work.

The restoration of "Ferrosplavnaya-1" returns the station to a two-line power supply scheme for its own needs. This is fundamental for a nuclear power plant: uninterrupted power supply to reactor cooling systems is a basic condition for nuclear and radiation safety. Operation on a single backup line is considered an abnormal mode and significantly increases the risks in the event of any subsequent infrastructure damage.
