The first payment to the budget using the digital ruble has been made in Russia — an administrative fine of 1,500 rubles was paid with it. This was announced by the head of the Federal Treasury, Roman Artyukhin, at a meeting with the PresidentCh
The treasury officially accepts such transfers from January 1, 2026. Before that, the technology was tested in pilot mode.
The digital ruble is the third form of Russian currency, along with cash and non-cash money. It is issued by the Bank of Russia and stored on a special platform of the Central Bank. In essence, it is a state digital currency for transfers and payments.
Currently, the authorities, together with the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, are discussing where else to apply the new form of settlements — including when paying subsidies and financing infrastructure projects. It is assumed that this will increase transparency and simplify control over the movement of budget funds.
