Russian drones enter the shelf: Gazprom replaces equipment with import substitution technology at offshore fields

The company is betting on autonomous underwater vehicles and unmanned vessels

Gazprom is actively implementing Russian technologies in the development of offshore fields, focusing on import substitution and autonomous underwater technology. This was announced by Evgeny Podolyako, Head of Department at PJSC Gazprom.

Launching an autonomous underwater vehicle into the water

The process of replacing foreign equipment started back in 2014. In 2024, a domestic underwater wellhead was installed at the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field. In the coming years, it is planned to install Russian underwater christmas tree.

Particular attention is paid to the introduction of marine unmanned technology — autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), small-sized vessels and other robotics. In 2025, a domestic AUV successfully passed tests in the waters of the Kirinskoye and Yuzhno-Kirinskoye fields, showing high results.
