They want to force you to pay more for luxury: a law on tax on the purchase of expensive cars is planned to be considered in the near future

The purchase of luxury real estate, air and water transport will also be subject to taxation

State Duma deputies from the "Fair Russia" faction have prepared a bill providing for the introduction of a one-time tax on the purchase of luxury transport. The document is planned to be submitted for consideration in the near future.

The implementation of the bill will provide additional revenues to the budgets of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and local budgets, and will also create incentives to optimize the ownership of excessive real estate and ultra-expensive movable property.
Explanatory note to the new bill

If adopted, the bill will amend the Tax Code and introduce an additional fee for the purchase of expensive cars, yachts, boats, airplanes and helicopters. Cars worth over 20 million rubles and water or air transport worth more than 50 million rubles will be subject to taxation. The tax will be progressive, with a rate of 1% to 4% of the purchase price, depending on the price category of the transport.

The tax will need to be paid once when the vehicle is registered with the state or within 30 days of purchase (if registration is not required). Without confirmation of payment of the fee, it will be impossible to register the car.

Additionally, the bill proposes to increase tax rates on luxury real estate. For properties worth from 350 to 450 million rubles, a rate of 3% is proposed, from 450 to 550 million rubles - 3.5%, and for properties more expensive than 550 million rubles - 4%.
