"Russian iron is very good": Hungary appreciated the quality of power units with VVER-440 reactors at the Paks NPP

Rosatom supplies nuclear fuel and is building another nuclear power plant in Europe

Soviet and Russian technologies have proven their efficiency and safety, therefore, the management of the Paks NPP expects to extend the operation of the nuclear power plant until the mid-2050s. This was stated by Pal Kovacs, Deputy General Director of the NPP.

Thus, the top manager assessed the quality of the four power units of the station, equipped with VVER-440 reactors.

The Paks NPP was commissioned in 1982. Now it is the only operating nuclear power plant. It covers about 50% of Hungary's electricity needs.

Licenses for the Paks NPP power units are valid until 2032-2037. According to Kovacs, the management plans to extend them until 2052-2057. The decision, preliminarily approved in parliament, must be approved by the Hungarian Atomic Energy Agency.

Rosatom supplies nuclear fuel to the Paks NPP. On February 5, the active phase of construction of Paks-2 began - the pouring of the first concrete. Two power units with VVER-1200 reactors (generation of safety |||+) will appear here.
