The Shvabe holding company (part of Rostekh State Corporation) has developed powerful optics for a new large telescope. This was reported by the state corporation's press service.
According to Shvabe CEO Vadim Kalyugin, the telescope's main element is its objective lens. A parabolic mirror with a diameter of 3.12 meters and a weight of about 3 tons was specially created for it.
The equipment makes it possible to obtain detailed images of space objects at distances of up to 3,500 kilometers. A built-in laser rangefinder is provided to measure the distance to the Moon with an accuracy of a few millimeters.
The optical complex successfully passed testing at the Titov Altai Experimental Laser Center.
Developments of this level confirm the high potential of our optical industry and the ability to independently ensure technological sovereignty in this area.
Only a few countries in the world create such equipment. The telescope is scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2026.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rostekh will create a unique radioheliograph for observing solar activity.
