At the first power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant under construction in Turkey, installation of the block transformers into their design position has been completed. Specialists have begun installing high-voltage bushings, assembling forced-cooling systems, and integrating monitoring and control systems.
Block step-up transformers are one of the main elements of the power output system of a power unit. Through them, the electricity generated by the turbine generator will be transmitted to the complete switchgear and then to the unified power system of the Republic of Turkey.
Before being connected to the power grid, the equipment will undergo a cycle of high-voltage tests, including insulation checks, transformation ratio measurement, and short-circuit testing.
The installation of the transformers became a critically important stage in forming the station's electric power output scheme. The block transformers, designed for a voltage of 500 kV, provide conversion of the 24 kV voltage generated by the turbine generator into the parameters required for transmitting electricity to Turkey's unified power system. Completion of this work creates the conditions for subsequent connection of power equipment, comprehensive load testing, and preparation for the physical startup of the VVER-1200 reactor unit.
