The Miass automobile plant has begun assembling specialized firefighting equipment on the chassis of the innovative two-axle all-wheel-drive Ural-80 (4×4) truck. The first example of the ATs-3.0-40 fire tanker model was ceremonially handed over to Fire and Rescue Unit No. 16 of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region.
The new equipment has been sent for so-called \"controlled operation\": over a certain period, the company's specialists will systematically analyze data on performance characteristics, the reliability of components and assemblies, as well as the adaptation of the chassis for special equipment under real firefighting conditions. The results obtained will form the basis for further optimization of the design and expansion of the range of special-purpose vehicles based on the Ural-80.
The Ural-80 4×4 chassis (official index — Ural-43206-67) is positioned as a modern medium-duty all-wheel-drive platform developed with the requirements of the Russian periphery in mind. At the heart of the vehicle is the YaMZ-535 turbodiesel unit: the 5.1-liter four-cylinder engine develops 238 hp with an impressive torque output of 900 N·m, ensuring high pulling power even at maximum load.
By the combination of key parameters — off-road capability, payload, and power-to-weight performance — the Ural-80 is regarded as the conceptual successor to the legendary Soviet GAZ-66 truck (\"Shishiga\"), which for many decades served as the basis for specialized vehicles in hard-to-reach regions. At the same time, the new platform has received a modern powertrain, improved cab ergonomics, and increased chassis service life.
