Valdai 12 trucks have started to be equipped with the new YaMZ-53445 engine, compliant with the Euro-5 environmental standard. The engine is fitted with a catalytic converter and an SCR selective catalytic reduction system, which automatically monitors the composition of exhaust gases and adjusts the supply of the AdBlue reagent depending on temperature and load.
The SCR system is integrated with the engine electronic control unit and includes a reagent injection nozzle, a 16-liter heated AdBlue tank for the cold season, a neutralizer muffler, and a set of nitrogen oxide sensors. This approach ensures stable compliance with environmental standards, reduces the risk of reagent crystallization, and lowers operating costs.
The new engine delivers up to 169 hp at 2300 rpm, while maximum torque of 662 Nm is available in the 1300–1600 rpm range. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox from the Nizhegorodskie Motory plant, providing a wide range of gear ratios.
In addition to powertrain improvements, the Valdai 12 retains a high level of comfort: the three-seat cab with a wide entry and good visibility is equipped with a sprung driver’s seat, a sleeper berth, a folding table, and a multimedia system with a rear-view camera. Multi-layer thermal insulation, air conditioning, and rear air suspension ensure smooth driving, while the front wheel steering angle of up to 50° improves maneuverability.
