Yandex Unveils New AI Identifier That Warns of Fraudulent Numbers

Algorithms analyze over 300 factors to protect the user

Android and iOS smartphone users will now be able to receive warnings from Yandex's AI caller ID when attempting to call fraudulent phone numbers. The new feature is designed to protect against scammers who push people to call the numbers provided, Yandex said.

As of early January 2026, 67% of calls to scammers originated from users themselves. Attackers often impersonate support staff, reporting unauthorized access attempts to accounts and offering to call a "secure" number.

The AI algorithms of the identifier analyze more than 300 factors, including the activity of the number, its presence in the phone book, as well as the speed of call drops and the number of fraud complaints. If a number is recognized as fraudulent, users will see a warning on the screen before the connection is completed.

The feature is available in the "Yandex with Alice" and "Yandex Browser" apps for iOS and Android.
