The military-industrial holding "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant" (KMZ) has successfully tested a new airboat with an aircraft engine, according to the head and owner of the company, Mikhail Danilenko.
According to him, a power unit with a capacity of up to 400 hp drives a propeller for horizontal movement of the airboat and forces air to create an air cushion. The maximum speed on water is 187 km/h, and on snow and ice it is up to 220 km/h.
The key task is to ensure mobility where roads end and conventional water transport is powerless: during ice drift and freeze-up, in shallow water, in overgrown channels, in swampy meadows, and in snowy virgin lands.
Danilenko clarified that the holding won a tender for the production and supply of 57 airboats for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the contract amount is 1.3 billion rubles. The vehicle belongs to the class of amphibious vehicles on an air cushion.
