Crews of naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet carried out large-scale combat training flights, during which they practiced high-precision strikes against ground targets using modern combat aircraft — multi-purpose Su-30SM2 fighters and Su-24M front-line bombers. The exercises took place at an aviation training ground in the eastern part of the Kaliningrad Region as part of planned combat training.
During the training, the pilots practiced key tactical tasks: fire cover for ground units, destruction of command posts, fortifications, clusters of armored vehicles and manpower of a mock enemy, as well as conducting aerial reconnaissance. Special attention was paid to the use of high-precision weapons in electronic warfare conditions.
High-explosive fragmentation air bombs OFAB-250-270 and heat-resistant practical bombs P-50T were used to engage targets. All approaches to the target were carried out on full-size targets, which made it possible to bring the exercises as close as possible to real combat conditions. The pilots also practiced elements of combat maneuvering and tactics for evading enemy air defense systems and fighter aircraft.
The exercises were conducted both during the day and at night, which demonstrated the high level of training of the crews and the reliability of the aircraft's onboard systems in round-the-clock operation. The exercises involved up to 10 combat vehicles and over 50 specialists from the engineering and technical staff of the mixed aviation regiment of the naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet.
