At the Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU), a unique concept of protective trousers for workers engaged in heavy physical labor was developed. In essence, they are an exoskeleton for the lower extremities, designed to prevent diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. It will contribute to effective rehabilitation.
The exoskeleton trousers are equipped with a system of elastic straps that are located along the main muscles of the legs. When the legs are bent, the elastomers are stretched, accumulating potential energy. When unbending, energy is released, which helps to reduce the load on the muscles. According to scientists, the trousers facilitate walking, squats and lunges.
Such an exoskeleton can greatly facilitate the work of loaders, builders, installers and representatives of other professions.
In order to understand how important this development is, scientists conducted a survey among laborers of industrial enterprises in Omsk. It showed that 30% of workers (both men and women) have already experienced injuries, and at the end of the working day they experience pain in the back and legs. Another 44% of respondents, but without injuries, also complain of discomfort in the limbs after the shift. Associate Professor of OmSTU Evgeny Meleshenko said that the prototype of the product is already ready. The developers are working on preparing for mass testing and further production.
