The crew of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) managed to intercept GMLRS guided missiles from the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
A crew member noted that the system is so versatile that it is impossible to hide from it.
We successfully shoot down targets that need to be engaged. Because it sees everything, the viewing range is so large that it can simultaneously track up to six targets at the same time.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev drew attention to the fact that the 9A317M self-propelled firing units now have six transport and launch containers with anti-aircraft missiles, instead of two.
This indicates an increase in the production intensity of 9M317M SAMs, which is encouraging.
As a reminder, the Buk-M3 system was developed at the V. Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Engineering on the basis of the Buk-M2. Production of the complex began in 2016.
Buk-M3 engages aerial targets flying at speeds up to 3 km/s at altitudes up to 35 km and distances up to 70 km. The complex is highly likely to intercept cruise missiles and maneuvering aerial targets.
