G1-level magnetic storms are predicted for January 9. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI and ISZF.
The cause of the possible occurrence of magnetic storms will be the passage of a medium-sized plasma ejection past the Earth. It left the Sun on January 6. However, astronomers report that the forecast is quite unstable.
With a very small deviation of the ejection to the left, the latter will pass by the Earth without any geomagnetic consequences, while with an "error" in the other direction, a noticeable increase in geomagnetic fluctuations is possible compared to the calculated ones.
A steady increase in the speed of the solar wind is also predicted for two days. The reason for this was the appearance of a coronal hole on the side of the Sun facing the Earth.
