From January 1, 2026, a law comes into force in Russia that allows advertising to be placed on space objects, including launch vehicles and satellites. The document was signed by President Vladimir Putin.
Changes have been made to the law "On Advertising" and to regulatory acts on the Roscosmos State Corporation. The advertiser must conclude an agreement with the owner of the space object, its owner with the right of economic management or operational management, or with an organization representing the interests of the state.
In the case of federal property objects, the agreement is drawn up in compliance with antimonopoly legislation. Advertising on space objects should not create a threat to the safety of space activities and affect the reliability of launches and operation of equipment.
Roscosmos has the right to provide services for размещению advertising, as well as for its production and distribution at facilities owned by the state corporation.
Let us remind you that there have already been advertising precedents in Russian cosmonautics: in 1992, the logo of a tobacco brand was placed on the Proton-K rocket, in 1996 Pepsi was filmed at the Mir station, and in 2001, cosmonauts participated in the filming of a Pizza Hut commercial on the ISS.
