On Pavla Medelki Street, 24, in Minsk, near the BelExpo exhibition center, an unusual New Year's art object has appeared: instead of a traditional Christmas tree, local authorities installed and decorated a giant BelAZ mining dump truck. The vehicle was wrapped in festive garlands, and two state flags of the Republic of Belarus were placed on the roof.
The initiative is timed to coincide with the "My Belarus" exhibition, which opened on December 19 at the same venue. According to the organizers, admission to the exhibition remains free.
The reaction of citizens to the non-standard solution was mixed. Some visitors expressed disappointment at the lack of a classic New Year's tree, noting that they expected a more familiar festive decoration. At the same time, other residents positively assessed the symbolic gesture, seeing it as a tribute to domestic mechanical engineering and support for the national manufacturer.
Such a performance emphasizes the importance of BelAZ as one of the flagships of Belarusian industry.
