Roscosmos Completes Second Phase of Vostochny's Power Supply Modernization

The "Amurskaya" substation and dual power supply ensure reliability category I for the space complex

The Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur Region has been provided with maximum power supply reliability after the completion of the second phase of infrastructure modernization, Roscosmos reported. Now, the space complex facilities receive electricity from two independent sources, including the largest 500 kV "Amurskaya" substation in the Far East. The power of the new energy supply is 49 MW, which corresponds to the first category of reliability.

To implement the project, energy workers laid more than 58 km of power transmission lines and installed over 200 supports, on which about 180 km of wire and 60 km of overhead ground wire were mounted. Protective devices were also installed on the supports to prevent birds from being electrocuted, as the route passes through the habitat of the endangered Far Eastern stork. All infrastructure is made using Russian equipment. The new power supply scheme has increased the stability of energy supply not only to the launch complexes, but also to the city of Tsiolkovsky, where more than 7.5 thousand people live.

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, noted that the creation of a sustainable power supply system is a significant event for the domestic rocket and space industry.

The Vostochny Cosmodrome will be fully completed in 2026. To date, the runway of the new airport and the first stage of the launch complex for Angara heavy-class launch vehicles have already been commissioned. In addition, two residential buildings with 90 and 125 apartments have been completed in Tsiolkovsky, and two more are under construction.

According to Roscosmos representatives, the completion of the second phase of energy supply will allow the cosmodrome and related infrastructure to operate with guaranteed reliability, and the construction and modernization of facilities — the airport, the launch complex and residential buildings — will continue until the end of 2026.
