VTB revealed the most popular fraud schemes before the New Year

Experts gave advice on how to protect yourself in the pre-New Year bustle

Against the background of the growth of online purchases and pre-New Year activity, fraudsters are intensifying attacks on users, introducing various fraudulent schemes. These include phishing, buying fake tickets and winning New Year's prizes, the VTB press service reports.

Attackers use social engineering, creating an illusion of urgency or manipulating people's desire to prepare for the holiday profitably. Fraudsters send New Year's stories or letters about "gifts from Santa Claus", placing links to phishing sites or spreading viruses to steal bank card data.

Attackers also create clones of well-known sites and sell fake tickets to New Year's events. After payment, as a rule, the goods do not arrive, and access to the events is invalid. Aggressive advertising is often used on social networks to lure users with limited "holiday offers".

Under the guise of New Year's contests, fraudsters demand card details or other personal data for "receiving a prize". Especially dangerous are files with the .apk extension for Android, which may contain malware.

The bank recommends avoiding clicking on links from unfamiliar "holiday" letters, checking sites for authenticity, using separate bank cards with a limited limit for online payments, and being careful with contests that require card details.
