As part of the new ten-year concept for the scientific and technological development of the transport industry, approved by the Russian government, the creation and implementation of technologies for passenger and cargo airships has been included among the priority areas. The document emphasizes that such aircraft are seen as a promising means of transportation in remote regions and for specialized transportation.
In addition to airships, the concept also highlights other advanced areas: air mobility vehicles, civilian supersonic aircraft, ekranoplans, convertiplanes, vertical take-off and landing aircraft, as well as suspended rail transport systems. Special attention is paid to high-speed systems based on magnetic levitation, hybrid power plants and electric transport.
It is noted that the revival of airship construction could be a response to the challenges of logistics in the Arctic and the Far East, where the traditional transport network is poorly developed. Modern airships, equipped with hybrid or electric power plants, are capable of providing environmentally friendly, economical and safe transportation over long distances without the need for a developed ground infrastructure.
