The Perekrestok supermarket chain (X5 Group) has implemented an age verification system via the Max messenger at all self-checkout kiosks. Now, customers can purchase age-restricted products using a "Digital ID" that replaces a paper passport.
The "Digital ID" is a QR code displayed in the user's Max messenger profile. The code is updated every 30 seconds and is only available on the device where it was created. To verify age, simply scan the QR code at the checkout and pay for the purchase.
X5 Group noted that the new technology makes using self-checkout kiosks more convenient and faster. Customers can independently purchase products in the 18+ category without contacting store staff. The solution also reduces the burden on staff who previously controlled such purchases.
Testing of the service began in September 2025 in the Perekrestok and Pyaterochka chains. At that time, the "Digital ID" was already available at self-checkout kiosks in Magnit and a number of other retail chains.
