AI Helps Reduce Flight Delays in Moscow

The Foundation for Advanced Research tested an automated slot allocation system

The Foundation for Advanced Research (FPI) has completed a control experiment on the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into the air traffic management system.

According to TASS, following the test, the delay rate in the Moscow Flight Information Region (UUWV) decreased by a factor of 1.66 compared to the classic CASA slotting algorithm, the FPI press service reported.

The experiment was conducted as part of the "Tactic" project by the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (FAU "GosNIIAS"). The main task of the technology is to automatically search for optimal time slots for departures, taking into account the capacity constraints of airports and the congestion of airspace.

The use of AI allows for faster and more accurate allocation of flights, reducing delays and increasing the efficiency of dispatch services. The air traffic management agent, created within the framework of the project, provided a significant improvement in performance compared to traditional methods.
