Footage of the Russian UMPB-5 gliding aerial bomb has appeared online. From them, it can be concluded that the munitions have received a radio altimeter antenna for the first time and have become much more effective in use.
Thanks to the update, the munitions can detonate at a certain altitude, increasing the area of destruction and a more even distribution of the fragmentation field and explosion.
In addition, to increase accuracy, the UMPB-5 received two full-fledged elevators and one rudder.
Note that the main carriers of the UMPB-5 are the Su-34 and Su-35S fighters. When dropped from a combat aircraft, the range of the bomb can be from 90–120 km to 145–160 km, depending on altitude and speed.
The projectile was developed on the basis of a 250 kg high-explosive aerial bomb (FAB-250), but the UMPB-5 is considered a new complex, and not just a modernization.
