Mobile operator "MegaFon" launches testing of domestic base stations for 5G

A contract for the supply of equipment was concluded with Yadro

The operator "MegaFon" has signed an agreement for the supply of 1500 base stations manufactured by the Russian company Yadro, which is part of "Iks Holding". The supply will be divided into two stages, each of which provides for the supply of 750 BTS8100 base stations. In addition to them, the Yadro NMS network management system, controllers and other necessary components will be provided.

The new base stations support GSM (2G) and LTE (4G) standards, and their architecture is already ready for the deployment of a 5G network. The devices have been certified and included in the register of Russian industrial products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. They meet all the requirements of regulators and can be used in various conditions — both in large cities and in remote areas. MegaFon plans to conduct a comprehensive test of the new equipment in various operating conditions.

MegaFon continues to integrate Russian technologies and software into its network. Since the beginning of the year, the operator has already replaced DWDM multiplexers, which has increased the flexibility and reliability of the main communication line in the Far East, and has also improved user access to Internet resources using domestic CGNAT solutions.
