Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov inspected Russian military facilities in Tajikistan, including the famous 201st military base and the strategically important "Okno" optical-electronic space control complex. Located in the mountains at an altitude of over 2,200 meters above sea level, this complex has been providing continuous monitoring of space objects in orbits up to 50,000 km since 1999.
«Окно» is one of the key elements of the Russian space control system (SKKP). The complex is capable of detecting, tracking, and performing photometric measurements of satellites and other space objects, including low-orbiting vehicles at altitudes from 120 to 2000 km. Its operation is based on passive optical-electronic observation methods in the visible spectrum, which excludes radio emission and makes the system inconspicuous.
The complex includes two main subsystems:— A search optical-electronic detection station covering a full circle in azimuth (0–360°) and elevation angles from 30° to 90°.— A station for measuring angular coordinates and photometry with a narrow-angle channel (lens diameter — 235 mm) and a maximum tracking speed of 3.7 degrees per second.
Belousov noted the high level of personnel training and the technical readiness of the complex to perform tasks in the face of increasing space activity.
