Russia has again closed the airspace over the Kapustin Yar military training ground in the Astrakhan region to civilian flights. Ballistic missiles of the "Oreshnik" type are launched from it, and the latest anti-aircraft developments are being tested.
Kapustin Yar is located in the northeastern part of the Astrakhan region. The facility was opened in 1946 as the State Central Training Ground of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR for testing missile weapons — the first Soviet ballistic and anti-aircraft missiles.
According to information from open sources, the first launch in history of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) was carried out from Kapustin Yar October 21, 2024.
Also, advanced models of domestic weapons are often shown at the training ground. In October, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev visited it.
