Northern Fleet Receives Two Mi-8MTV-5M Helicopters with Missile Protection and New Autopilot

Helicopter crews successfully covered a distance of over 2,500 km

The aviation complex of the Northern Fleet has been reinforced with two new Mi-8MTV-5M helicopters with a jamming system. The combat vehicles are designed for fire support, transportation of troops and cargo, as well as for performing search and rescue tasks.

The helicopter crews completed a flight from Tatarstan, covering more than 2,500 km with refueling in the Ivanovo, Arkhangelsk, and Murmansk regions.

The Northern Fleet noted that the Mi-8MTV-5M is equipped with the latest passive jamming system, which provides protection for the aircraft against missile strikes.

During the redeployment from the helicopter plant, the equipment performed excellently. The new autopilot system greatly facilitates piloting, including at night. Thanks to the powerful power plants, start-up has been simplified. It is possible to warm up the cabin and equipment immediately without starting the engines — this is especially important for us in the north.

The Rostec State Corporation noted that the Mi-8MTV-5M is capable of performing night flights in a group using night vision goggles, and navigation and weather monitoring systems are integrated into a single information field.

The modern communication complex is unified with all helicopters supplied in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and provides the function of data exchange between combat vehicles.
