Another auxiliary power unit will be installed on the Project 22220 vessel

Specialists from the Baltic Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) have loaded a backup diesel generator (RDG) onto the port side of the under-construction universal nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad" of Project 22220. This was reported by the press service of the shipbuilding enterprise.

The unit, weighing 38.5 tons and with a capacity of 2000 kW, was installed in its regular place using a gantry crane. A total of 2 RDGs will be installed on the icebreaker.

The generators are part of the main electric power system and provide power supply to the vessel. The backup power units start automatically if there is no power on the main distribution board. They run on diesel fuel.

About the icebreaker "Leningrad"

The sixth vessel of Project 22220 was laid down at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg in January 2024. The ceremony was attended by President Vladimir Putin.

The universal icebreaker is being built by order of Rosatom. Currently, work continues on the formation of the vessel's hull at the shipyard's slipway.
