CBR to include large transfers to oneself via FPS in signs of fraudulent transactions

The updated list of transaction signs will take into account changes in the phone number in online banking

The Bank of Russia will include large transfers to oneself through the Faster Payments System (FPS) in the signs of fraudulent transactions. This was announced by the Director of the Information Security Department of the Central Bank, Vadim Uvarov, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, fraudsters have begun to persuade Russians to transfer their own funds to their own accounts via the FPS. Banks will pay attention to such transactions if, on the same day, the client tries to transfer money to another person to whom they have not made transfers in the last six months.

Uvarov clarified that it is easier for attackers to steal funds when they are concentrated in one account, especially if the fraudsters have gained access to it.

Currently, the list of signs of fraudulent transactions of the Central Bank includes six items. In the near future, the Bank of Russia will publish an order with an updated list, which will include transfers to oneself, changing the phone number to log in to online banking, and using an atypical Internet provider.

Banks should take these signs into account when preventing fraud. The lists already take into account transactions with online transfers and cash withdrawals through ATMs. The requirement to suspend suspicious transactions has been in effect since July 25, 2024. Among the signs are the presence of an account in the Central Bank's database of fraudulent accounts, the atypical nature of the transaction for the client, and the use of a device previously used by attackers.
