Some disadvantages have been noticed in the 2A42 gun for the Terminator tank support fighting vehicle (BMPT), which make it inferior to the 2A72 gun for the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). This was reported by the authors of the Telegram channel "Artillery."
They noticed barrel beating when firing at a high rate from one 2A42 gun on the BMPT.
It is visible that the casings are falling only from the left barrel. The dispersion is large. The 2A72 has much less dispersion.
Apparently, the dispersion during the 2A42 fire on the BMPT is associated with the combination of a high rate, high recoil, and less rigid mounting.
At a high rate, the barrel heats up and bends in its own modes of oscillation. If the rate is high, the amplitudes are larger — the projectiles exit with different orientations. Incomplete rigidity of the mounting also affects the transfer of vibrations to the hull and further displacement of the aiming point.
