Dividends from oil and gas sales: a new scam invented by fraudsters before National Unity Day

More than 300 phishing sites with a new scam scheme have appeared on the Internet

Attackers have created over 300 phishing sites where Russians are promised to pay "holiday dividends from the sale of oil and gas" in honor of National Unity Day. This is reported by F6, a cybersecurity company.

The criminals announce the payment of "dividends" to all citizens of Russia in the amount of 75 thousand rubles, which should be credited before November 4. Fake messages are provided with reviews from alleged users who received the money. Visitors are invited to calculate the estimated amount of "dividends" by filling out a form where you need to specify your age, name, surname and telephone number.

Experts note that this is a standard investment fraud scheme: as soon as the victim leaves their data, a fraudster calls them, who persuades them to invest money to increase capital. As a result, instead of the expected income, the user loses all funds.

Anastasia Mamynova, leading analyst of the second line CERT department of Digital Risk Protection, explained that previously fraudsters used a similar scheme timed to coincide with Maslenitsa. Now they have adapted it to the Day of National Unity, combining traditional tricks with new approaches.
