Russia has closed the airspace for civilian flights over the Kapustin Yar military training ground in the Astrakhan region. Launches of "Oreshnik"-type missiles are carried out from it, and the latest anti-aircraft developments are also being tested at the training ground.
The restrictions will last until October 21.
Kapustin Yar is located in the northeastern part of the Astrakhan region. The facility was opened in 1946 as the State Central Training Ground of the Ministry of Armed Forces of the USSR for testing missile weapons — the first Soviet anti-aircraft and ballistic missiles.
According to data from open sources, the first launch in history of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) was carried out from Kapustin Yar.
On Saturday, October 18, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, visited Kapustin Yar and familiarized himself with advanced models of domestic weapons.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that jamming-resistant Molniya-2 kamikaze drones were equipped with a second engine for the first time.
