Russian authorities are considering expanding the production of polymers at oil refineries. This was announced by the First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Pavel Sorokin.
According to him, Russia needs to manage its raw material resources more efficiently. For many years, valuable fractions in oil and gas have been burned or sold abroad.
Therefore, we plan to complete the projects that have been started and are now studying in more detail the possibility of expanding the production of polymers at oil refineries.
The official explained that it is more logical to produce high-conversion products at a site where raw materials are already available. Moreover, many consumption centers in the domestic market are within a radius of 500-700 km from these refineries, Sorokin added.
It is too early to say exactly what types of polymers are being discussed — the projects are in the development stage. In particular, discussions are underway on a number of compositions in which Russia depends on imports.
