Clients of online cinemas, as well as other services, may be prohibited from using their bank card details from March 2026 if they have been removed from their personal account. This will prevent automatic debiting of funds for online subscriptions. Such amendments to the law have been approved by the Federation Council.
We are talking about a new clause in Article 161 of the Law "On Protection of Consumer Rights." It prohibits service providers from using old bank details for recurring payments if the consumer has refused to use them.
The fact is that although many companies independently notify customers about digital subscriptions and debits, users often do not receive any warnings. There have also been cases where services do not accept subscription cancellations or do not cancel them after the trial period. Then the money is debited without prior notice.
Senator Artem Sheikin said that the law is another step towards civilized and transparent relations between consumers and online services. The politician explained that the law does not prohibit subscriptions, but only requires greater transparency.
