Achilles' heel of the "Superjet": the pilot raised the alarm due to an aircraft defect

Honored pilot Smirnov: in the old version of the SJ-100, the landing gear strut pierces the fuel tank during a rough landing

The old version of the SJ-100 "Superjet" has a significant drawback that directly affects the safety of the aircraft. This was reported by honored pilot Oleg Smirnov.

According to him, in this aircraft, the landing gear strut and the fuel tank are attached to the same spar. During a rough landing, the strut pierces the tank with all the ensuing consequences.

This defect will not be present in the new import-substituted aircraft. But one and a half hundred old ones continue to fly and have not yet been modified.

Smirnov did not rule out that this defect led to the fire and death of people during a rough landing at Sheremetyevo in 2019.

"Pervyi Tekhnicheskiy" reported that the domestic SSJ-New is not a modernization, but a re-written aircraft from scratch. Import substitution reaches 97%, which means replacing everything: from software to hydraulic systems, from the PD-8 engine to navigation devices.
