The water-water energetic reactor (VVER-1200), the корпус of which was shipped by Rosatom to Turkey for the Akkuyu NPP, became the 80th export reactor. This was announced by the General Director of the state corporation, Alexey Likhachev, at the opening of the international forum "World Atomic Week" in Moscow.
According to Likhachev, in total, Rosatom has produced 250 reactors, including those supplied abroad.
The head of the state corporation launched the simultaneous shipment of two VVER-1200 reactor корпуs for the Akkuyu NPP and El-Dabaa NPP on September 25. Protective shells were manufactured by Rosatom's machine-building enterprises — Izhora in St. Petersburg and Atommash in Volgodonsk.
About Rosatom's projects in Turkey and Egypt
In mid-September, the General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear, Sergei Butskikh, announced the start of the commissioning process of the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP. Workers are carrying out commissioning works, checking equipment and preparing it for safe operation. The exact timing of the launch of unit No. 1 is not specified. In total, 4 power units with a total capacity of 4800 MW will operate at the Turkish NPP.
Rosatom is also building the first NPP for Egypt — El-Dabaa. Here, 4 power units with VVER-1200 reactors will be built. According to the terms of the contract, the state corporation will supply Egypt with nuclear fuel for the station. The first El-Dabaa reactor is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
