A batch of Russian MiG-29 fighters has arrived in Iran. This was announced by Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of the Iranian parliament.
Russian fighters have already arrived in Iran as a short-term solution and are now in Shiraz. For long-term solutions, Su-35 fighters are gradually arriving.
Didban Iran reported that the purchase of the MiG-29 is being considered as a temporary solution to strengthen the Iranian Air Force. The Su-35 will arrive in stages under a long-term contract with Russia.
According to Zohrevand, the supply of the MiG-29 is considered part of a broader agreement on military cooperation between Russia and Iran. This agreement allegedly includes the supply of Russian air defense systems, helicopters and other weapons. Details of the agreement remain largely classified, but experts believe it is aimed at strengthening Iran's defense capabilities in the face of regional tensions.
MiG-29 is a Soviet and Russian multirole front-line supersonic fourth-generation fighter. It is designed to destroy aerial targets in all weather conditions, as well as to engage ground targets in visual visibility.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Su-34NVO generation "4+" fighter-bombers began to be equipped with modernized UMPC-PDs.
