Specialists from the Murmansk Arctic University have patented a unique invention — a shipborne tower that houses multicopters on a fiber optic cable to protect warships from unmanned surface vessel attacks.
The document states that in combat operations, ensuring survivability in the absence of protection against unmanned surface vessels remains one of the main problems for a ship.
Therefore, engineers have developed a special tower on the ship's deck. In the front part, there are openings with sealed lids that open from top to bottom.
Inside the tower, there are belt conveyors oriented towards these openings. The conveyors are fitted with pins for mounting fiber optic drones, which continue to operate even in electronic warfare conditions.
According to the patent, upon detection of approaching USVs, the required number of openings are uncovered by opening the lids. Then, using belt conveyors, drones on fiber optics are extended from the tower onto the lids, after which they are launched.
