AvtoVAZ plans to switch to a four-day work week starting September 29. This work schedule may last up to six months. The decision is related to the situation in the car market. This information was announced at a recent conference of the company's employees.

In order to preserve jobs and the workforce, as well as to prevent mass layoffs, it is planned to introduce a four-day part-time work week from September 29, 2025, for a period of six months.

According to journalists, the conference also discussed measures taken in the first half of 2025. They are aimed at increasing employee employment. These include increasing the production of spare parts, organizing additional equipment repairs, improving working conditions, as well as training and retraining employees. The initiatives are aimed at maintaining the income level of employees and preserving the workforce.

The management of AvtoVAZ has appealed to the federal and regional authorities with a request to allocate funds for the organization of temporary work, which should also help in maintaining the financial well-being of employees.

The chairman of the primary trade union organization of AvtoVAZ, Sergei Zaitsev, confirmed the information about the transition to a four-day work week, which will last until March 28, 2026. The decision was announced by the company's press service back in July, but final confirmation is expected in early autumn.

According to Avtostat, sales of Lada passenger cars in Russia for the first eight months of 2025 decreased by 24.9%, amounting to 211,331 units. This decline was one of the reasons that prompted AvtoVAZ to consider the possibility of switching to a reduced work schedule.
