Heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" will be transitioning to the T-80 tank base. This was announced by the General Director of the Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) concern, Alexander Potapov. He called the TOS a very popular combat vehicle.
The TOS is based on the chassis of the T-72 and T-90 tanks, and the combat part is the design development of our Omsk enterprise.
According to Potapov, there is a"real hunt" for the TOS-1A. Therefore, the developers have installed additional protection for the heavy flamethrower system against drones.
The General Director of UVZ noted that the new modification of the TOS based on the T-80 has received a number of improvements. The gun has increased range, accuracy and automation.
In the future, the concern will fully switch to the production of such TOS. However, systems based on T-72/T-90 will remain available for customers.
