Characteristics of the new Iskander-M OTRK missile revealed: high-precision strike became more lethal

The 450 kg warhead received upgraded sensors

In Russia, the warhead of the R-500 (9M728) cruise missiles (CR) for the Iskander-K operational-tactical missile system (OTRK) has been modernized.

According to information published online, the 450 kg warhead of the CR received a set of new contact detonation sensors, which increases the probability of detonation of the warhead under any conditions.

A similar scheme is already used on air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101. The 9M728 missile warheads previously did not have contact target sensors.

This means that the warhead does not detonate from contact with any surface, but the detonation command is issued automatically when pre-programmed parameters are reached.

Iskander-M is a Russian OTRK designed to destroy enemy missile defense and air defense systems, as well as critical military facilities at a maximum range of up to 500 km.
