Representatives of the "Nature and People" foundation have for the first time attached tags to whales using drones, as announced by the foundation's CEO, Sergei Rybakov.
This year, we used a drone for the first time to attach tags to whales. The tag is shot into the whale from a drone using Russian-made pneumatics.
These tags react when the whale surfaces. They transmit signals to a satellite. This allows scientists to track the movements of whales in near real time.
In July 2025, employees of the Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Sea of Okhotsk attached five tags to bowhead whales. The new methodology opens up opportunities for studying the behavior and migration of these marine giants in order to preserve their population.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a new remote control system for UAVs via 4G networks was created at MAI.
