The aircraft of the Russian airline «Azimuth» was decorated with a special livery. This time, the «Superjet» RA-89189 named «Lena» received a design dedicated to the 100th anniversary of civil aviation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). This is the fourth aircraft in the airline's fleet to receive a unique design.
The central element of the design is the image of an ancient horseman - an exact copy of a rock painting from the 6th-9th centuries AD, discovered in the Lena River region and being the central element of the Republic's coat of arms.
The official logo of the centenary celebration is placed on the front of the aircraft. Its author is Kirill Okoneshnikov, a graduate of the children's art school of Srednekolymsk. His work, depicting a soaring white crane painted in the colors of the Yakutia flag, was unanimously chosen by the jury from more than 20 projects submitted to the competition.
As the author explained, the white crane is a sacred bird for the Sakha people, a symbol of goodness and happiness. His motto for the project was: «Conquer, aviation, the skies of Yakutia, like a white crane!» For winning the competition, Kirill was awarded a diploma and a valuable prize. Currently, the young man is studying in Moscow, so his grandmother and grandfather received the award.
Interesting fact: the airline «Azimuth» does not operate and has never operated regular flights to Yakutia. But the logic is simple: the planes are named after rivers, and the Lena flows, among other places, in Yakutia.
