Starting in September, Russian users will have the right to return a purchased smartphone due to its inadequate quality if it is impossible to install the RuStore app store and a number of other domestic services on it.
It is important to note that if the manufacturer or supplier of the device does not provide the ability to install RuStore, such a product may be recognized as not meeting the mandatory requirements. In this case, the buyer has the right to return it as defective.
The innovations will also affect iPhones. As the senator recalled, a law comes into force on September 1 that obliges manufacturers and suppliers of gadgets sold in the Russian Federation to ensure the “technical possibility of free installation and updating of domestic applications,” including RuStore.
According to the senator, the measures taken are of fundamental importance for strengthening the technological independence and information security of Russia.
