Thursday, August 28, marked exactly one year since the launch of the driverless "Lastochka" on the MCC. The train is controlled autonomously, with the driver in the cabin only to respond to emergency situations.
A domestic navigation system is installed on board. It combines several data sources: an inertial system for measuring tilt and acceleration, a laser scanner for estimating distances to objects, and satellite navigation.
That is why the "Lastochka" reliably detects platforms, traffic lights, switches, and other track elements. When foreign objects appear on the rails, the system assesses the situation and takes the necessary measures. All software and neural networks are developed in Russia.
When launching the "Lastochka", the head of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, stated that the event was historic. A year later, on the sidelines of the "Archipelago 2025" forum, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Andrey Nikitin, noted that the train had traveled several tens of thousands of kilometers without incidents.
